How the shelter came to be
In 2013 the City of Killeen Community Development Division asked Families In Crisis to extend shelter to the general homeless population. A $1.4M Community Development Block Grant project renovated an existing agency building — separate sleeping areas for men and women, a commercial-grade kitchen, a dining area, communal showers, and full system upgrades. It opened on December 23 2015.
In 2023 the shelter provided 22,077 shelter nights to 757 individuals.
Every night of shelter is paid for by someone in Central Texas.
