Browsing more safely

An abuser may be able to see which sites you visit, even after you delete your history.

1. Safest option: use a computer or phone your abuser has no access to — a library, a friend's house, or work.
2. Call instead. A phone call to 1-888-799-SAFE leaves less of a trail than a web search, though it does appear on a shared phone bill.
3. Use a private window. Private or incognito browsing keeps this visit out of your history, but it does not hide anything from monitoring software or your internet provider.
4. Check for monitoring apps. Spyware on a phone can record everything, including what you type. If you suspect it, use a different device rather than trying to remove it — removing it can alert the person who installed it.
5. The Quick exit button at the top of every page sends you straight to a weather site and replaces this page in your history.
